Poem 18

I don’t believe in falling out of love,

Because, if it’s really love,

It lasts,

Even when you want to forget it.

True love stays with you forever –

You hear it in the rain

And feel it in the darkness.

It haunts your memories

And steals your breath

When you hear birds singing

In the stillness of the morning.

You sink in it slowly

While riding your metro train,

Absentmindedly smiling to yourself.

Maybe some people can fall out of love,

But I’ve never been able to.

And I don’t think it’s really possible,

Not if you’ve truly, fully, recklessly loved.

And I have.
